I graduated from UND’s College of Nursing in 1975 and promptly left Grand Forks for Minneapolis. I worked as an RN in the Twin Cities area for two years before moving to SW Minnesota to pursue public health nursing. I soon met my husband Mark and Heron Lake, MN, population 780, became my home when we were married in November of 1979. We’ve now lived on the Haberman family farm for 28 years. Our farm is a Century Farm, meaning it has been in the family for at least 100 years (actually closer to 120). Mark raised hogs for 30 years but now raises only corn and soybeans. He also works at Pioneer Seeds in Jackson, Minnesota. I earned a master’s degree in nursing in 1995 from SDSU in Brookings, S.D. I taught nursing and later became the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health at Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington, MN. After 15 years at Minnesota West I decided to try something new, and in 2001 became the Education Manager at the Worthington Regional Hospital –now Sanford Medical Center Worthington (perhaps you’ve heard the “Sanford” name – Sanford just merged with Fargo’s Merit Care). I was appointed to the Minnesota Board of Nursing by Governor Carlson in 1998 and by Governor Pawlenty in 2006. I currently serve as Vice President of the Board. We like to motorcycle (three trips to the Sturgis rally in the past few years) and travel (especially cruises) when we can. As of this writing I have seven years, seven months and 16 days to retirement. Oh - I am the proud owner of a discreet tattoo that commemorated my 50th birthday and plan another one at 60! I am looking forwared to the reunion.
7/2021 Update, if anyone cares, lol. I retired in July of 2018, but continue very part time as school nurse for our tiny school district
